Individual Counseling

Do you feel overwhelmed by everyday issues and feel like giving up? Do you feel isolated and that no one cares? Do you wish to be heard, understood, and validated without being judged? Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, life transitions, grief, or relationship issues? Individual counseling can be a very rewarding and restorative life experience for you.

Together we will work to better understand you, your motivations, relationships, and your life goals. We will build on your strengths and focus on how you can apply them toward healing, growth, and change. We will also work on how you can build meaningful and supportive connections with others for a more robust life experience. Individual therapy can make this a reality for you.

My approach to therapy is proactive, interactive, and individualized to meet your specific needs. With genuine care, we will embark on a journey of self-discovery, develop healthier patterns of thinking and behaving that will lead to a more fulfilling life.

Counseling will begin with an initial assessment. This will allow us to determine together the treatment course, intervention, and frequency of sessions. Each session is typically about 55 minutes in length.

Couples Counseling

Are you and your partner stuck in a vicious cycle of arguments most of the time? Do you feel isolated from each other? Do you desire more meaningful communication and intimacy in your relationship? Do you want to save your relationship and learn new ways to solve conflicts? Do you want to understand each other better and how to meet each other’s needs? Do you want to have a better sex life? Would you like to gain insight into your recurring couple habits and resolve them?

With caring support, couples, pre-marital, and marital counseling can offer partners a safe place to share, question, and express their feelings and concerns with each other. My goal is to help you discover new skills and ways to appreciate, understand and empathize with each other and ultimately rekindle your love for each other. The result can change your relationship dynamic to a thriving and successful connection despite the challenges that come your way. Sometimes change is needed in the relationship when the connection is not a good fit. But the grass is not always greener on the other side. However, couples therapy can help you cross that bridge if you eventually get there.

Some issues addressed are, addiction and partner support, work-life balance, blended families, divorce, chronic illness, extended family, infidelity, intimacy issues, mental illness, premarital counseling, sex, and pornography.

Typical sessions are about 50 minutes, but allowance can be made for 75-minute sessions, if requested.

Areas of Focus

At Adaptive Transformation Counseling, I am dedicated to addressing a wide range of psychological and emotional challenges. Through specialized therapeutic approaches tailored to each unique condition, my goal is to help you navigate your personal hurdles and foster healing and growth. Here are some of the key areas of focus in my practice:

Anxiety and panic attacks can come from any angle or sphere of life. Some people report that it feels like they are having a heart attack and may have difficulty breathing. They can experience racing thoughts, shaking, and other physical symptoms. These symptoms can prevent you from enjoying social events, relationships, and life generally. Therapy can help you overcome your anxiety and panic. In sessions, you will learn healthy ways to manage your anxious feelings and begin to live and enjoy life again.

Betrayal trauma is the feeling of deep emotional pain and distress caused by trust being violated by someone you trust. The betrayal may come from parents, romantic partners, friends, supervisors, groups, institutions, organizations, religious leaders, etc. Betrayal can cause a unique type of trauma because it breaks trust once held and leads to deep wounding and intense emotional and mental turmoil. Once trust is lost, it can be difficult to build again and requires dedication and intense work in therapy. We can provide the necessary support and tools you need to navigate the challenges of healing from the wounds of betrayal.

Depression is a serious condition that can impact every area of a person’s life and their ability to function every day. Depression can change a person’s thoughts, behaviors, feelings, and relationships. Counseling for depression is a personal decision that can lead to reduced symptoms and an improvement in daily life management. With counseling you can begin to heal by refocusing and rebuilding your life with support and guidance from us.

Trauma is an emotional response you experience after going through a deeply distressing or disturbing event. It can affect how you feel, think, and interact with others thereby making everyday life challenging and difficult. Your journey of healing from trauma is vital for reclaiming your life. Counseling can help guide and support you every step of the way. Your therapist will work with you in a safe environment with empathy, understanding, and expertise geared toward helping you learn skills and strategies to use to manage and reduce your symptoms.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition a person experiences after they have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. PTSD can occur immediately after a traumatic event, or it may take weeks, months or years before symptoms arise. Not everyone who experiences a traumatic event will develop PTSD because different factors such as genetics, personal history, coping mechanisms, and the severity of the trauma can affect people differently. Counseling for PTSD offers you hope for growth and healing. It provides you with a safe place to explore your thoughts and feelings. During sessions, you will learn effective coping skills and strategies that will help you manage and reduce your negative and recurring thoughts related to the trauma incident. Counseling can help you to understand your experience and gain powerful insight that can ultimately help you take control of your life and move toward your desired life goals.

Narcissistic abuse entails a pattern of persistent manipulation, control, and exploitation by an individual such as a family member, romantic partner, friend, coworker, supervisor, etc. with narcissistic traits or a narcissistic personality type. A person experiencing constant narcissistic abuse will struggle internally as they try to make sense of their experiences with their abuser. They often find themselves constantly feeling lost and confused as they try to figure out what is real and what is not. It is common to experience feelings of sadness, guilt, shame, and anger after experiencing narcissistic abuse. If you find that you are always trying to understand a person and your relationship dynamic with them defies logic, therapy may help bring clarity and answers you have been searching for. Therapy can help you process your intense feelings and emotions and ultimately overcome the challenges crucial for rebuilding self-esteem, confidence and improving your quality of life.

Teen Counseling

Are you worried about your teenager? We can help!

Counseling can help teens with issues such as self-harm, suicidal thoughts, low self-esteem, academic problems, anxiety, and social issues. Counseling helps teens receive emotional support, resolve conflicts with people, understand feelings and problems, and try out new solutions to old problems.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing)

EMDR is an effective form of treatment that was developed by trauma therapists and is backed by extensive research. It is a treatment modality that can help you work through painful memories, experiences, or beliefs that are impacting your everyday life.

It helps your brain process and release traumatic memories through your eye movements. If you experienced traumatic events in the past that were not properly processed in the brain when they occurred, they may continue to affect you in the form of flashbacks, nightmares, and feelings of the trauma occurring all over again.

When you encounter something that reminds you of the trauma, your brain and body may react as though you are reliving the trauma all over again. This is because your brain cannot distinguish between the past and the present.

Here, EMDR is an adaptive information processing model that can help you “reprocess” the disturbing memories so that you can move past them. When this happens, you should be able to remember the traumatic events without experiencing the intense, emotional reactions associated with them.

If you are interested in this type of treatment intervention, feel free to discuss this with me during your consultation.
